Record sales of the album during Radiohead’s music career aren’t publicly available, but it did reach platinum certification, which signifies at least 1,000,000 sales, and quadruple platinum in the U.K. The Bends ranks 3rd out of their 10 albums based on record sales during their career.
Placed into the three genre subcategories of Alternative Rock, Indie Rock, and Britpop, The Bends has received very positive reviews from music critics and fans over the years. With a critic score of 83 and a user score of 86 on Album of the Year, the album was marked as a “Must hear album”. Based on reviews for albums released in the same year, the album was ranked 16th out of 585 albums. Of all time, it’s ranked 472. The album was also ranked 276 out of the Rolling Stones’ Top 500 Greatest albums of all time list.
Initially running at 48:33, the album had no reissues until the late 2000s. It was never released with any new tracks, but there were a few tracks released as singles apart from the album. Those songs were ‘Just’, ‘Fake Plastic Trees’, ‘High & Dry’, ‘Planet Telex’, and more.
Although not Radiohead’s most popular, The Bends holds a few of their most popular songs. The album’s most popular song, ‘Fake Plastic Trees’, is Radiohead’s 5th most popular song overall, averaging around 463,000 listens per day on Spotify alone.

Overall, The Bends is an amazing album overall, with multiple reviews claiming the music reveals such detailed emotions as you listen to it more and more, uncovering more built up angst in the music as you go. Over the years, Radiohead’s music popularity has climbed to them being ranked 83rd in the world based on monthy listeners. The Bends is not just a great mood setter for a chilled out study session or simply just for the vibes as you lay in your room, but a masterpiece of the music scene.
