Ms. Fitzgerald (Ms. Fitz) is the Norman High School Teacher of the Week. She loves to be a part of the school’s culture and activities. Ms. Fitz cares a lot about the well-being of her students and makes a point to always have her kids write one good thing every morning. Her catch phrase, according to Ms. Fitz, is “Every day might not be a good day, but there is always one good thing in every day.”
Q: How long have you been working at Norman High School and what do you teach?
A: This will be my third year. I teach AP PreCalculus and Algebra II.
Q: Have you always wanted to be a math teacher?
A: Since about seventh grade, I think I knew I was going to be a math teacher. I did search for other options when I went to college just to make sure, and I did not like anything as much as teaching.
Q: Do you have any other plans for your career, or do you think you will stay with teaching?
A: I am currently in my master’s for education administration. So, I will move into some sort of administrative role.
Q: Are there any clubs, teams, or groups that you’re a part of or in charge of?
A: I am the Norman High School girls tennis coach. I also sponsor Math Honor Society.
Q: What are some things you enjoy about Norman High School?
A: Well, first of all, our teacher culture is really cool, very supportive of professional development. We just kind of have a shared belief that, “you’re never done learning.” We’re really supportive of helping each other continue to learn and be our best selves for our kids. It’s also a really inviting place. Plus, I love my kiddos.
Q: What are some good memories you have here at Norman High?
A: Every game day that we do. Also every one-on-one conversation I get to have with a student is a positive memory for me and a reason I stay.
Q: Did you do anything over fall break you would like to share?
A: I went to Tulsa to visit with my parents. We played D&D while I was there, and pickleball. I also worked a lot.
Q: Do you have any big plans for the rest of the year?
A: In July, I’m taking a group of kids to France and Switzerland for 10 days. It’s super exciting. I can’t wait to do that. My best friend is getting married, so we are going on her bachelorette trip over spring break. I’m also going to the beach for New Years.

Vergil Ilaoa, Writer/Editor
I am a Senior at Norman High School. I have been a part of our Newspaper since 2024. I enjoy writing, so the class looked like a good idea. The orchestra has been a part of my high school experience all four years. I play the violin in the Symphonic Orchestra with Waddell as the conductor.
As I am nearing the end of high school, my goal is to attend OU next year and work towards vet school. I love animals and have quite a few: four dogs, two guinea pigs, one cat, and one horse. Their names include: Joy, Jazzy, Boonie, Cupid, Clyde, Wybie, Scrabbles, and Strider. All of them are amazing. :)
