Mrs. Shull, our Norman High “Teacher of the Week,” is an Algebra 2 and AP Pre-Calculus teacher.
In her 6th year of teaching she is hoping to continue getting to know her students. She loves the events and culture of Norman High School.
In an interview with Mrs. Shull, we learn more about how she arrived at this point and why she enjoys teaching.
Q: Was teaching your career of choice when you were in high school?
A: “All my family was into business, so I grew up thinking I would also do business. When I got into college I saw all the business classes infront of me, I was pretty bored by it.”
Q: What changed when you saw those classes?
A: “I wasn’t very excited and I realized that I had kind of been ignoring a passion of mine of, you know, just loving math and being able to help people and serve others. So when I found out that there was a college of education and that I could keep taking more math, I got very excited.”
Q: What school did you go to after your senior year?
A: “I went to The University of Oklahoma.”
Q: Why did you choose to work at a high school, instead of at a college?
A: “I enjoy the fact that we get to have like a little bit more personal of a relationship. Like I get to see you guys like five days a week.”
Q: So what kept you at Norman High School?
A: “I did my student teaching here at Norman High, I was working with Julie Klingensmith for that and I mean, I fell in love with the culture of the school and the environment of all the other teachers and the students and everybody kind of collaborating together.”
Q: What has been your favorite moment here at Norman High School?
A: “It’s hard to pick one specific moment. My favorite times at NHS are all the small moments of laughing and joking with my students while we’re working out math problems. I love being a little goofy while doing math.”
Q: What is one activity you enjoy outside of school?
A: “My favorite activity outside of school is playing games of all types! Video games, board games, and card games with family and friends.”
