Norman — Norman High School has added a licensed therapist to its student support services. Megan Walker, who holds a graduate degree from New York University and an undergraduate degree from the University of Oklahoma, is available for student appointments on Fridays.
Walker brings a diverse background in mental health and community services to the high school. Over the years she has held roles that include directing an after-school program, working in hospitals, and serving in public health. Most recently, she worked at the Health Department where her responsibilities included conducting home visits, leading support groups, and counseling new mothers.
“I have worked in different areas throughout my career,” Walker said. “But I really liked working with students and always hoped I would get back to a job related to the school.”
At Norman High, Walker said she enjoys both the individual work with students and being part of a multidisciplinary team. “I love my job! Working with students is so fun and I am part of a great team of professionals,” she said. “Being part of students’ success and growth, and knowing students trust me to help them, is the best part. My favorite part of working here is seeing the positive changes we make in therapy.”
School administrators emphasized that Walker’s role complements the work of teachers and other staff. By helping students address social and emotional needs, Walker said, she also contributes to a healthier learning environment for the whole school.
Students interested in meeting with Walker can schedule appointments on Fridays through the school office.
