For the first time in 10 years, the Norman High varsity volleyball team is headed back to the OSSAA state tournament.
The Tigers (31-9) punched their ticket last Tuesday in the Regional tournament, taking down Putnam City West in the first match by a score of 3-0 and outlasting Deer Creek 3-1 in the Regional championship game.
According to MaxPreps, this is the winningest season for Norman High volleyball since at least 2007, highlighting the magnitude of what this season has meant for the team and the school.
“We work really hard every day to get to this point and to prove to others that we can return to state tournament,” said junior Vanna Kelly, a Norman North transfer and pin hitter for the Tigers. “It feels really great and the team is happy to go back to state.”
Just two seasons ago, the Tigers only won five games. Now, they are back in the hunt for a 6A state title, a testament to the turnaround this program has experienced under second-year head coach, Alexis Brendemihl.
The Tigers will begin their quest for gold on Thursday, October 23rd, in Verdigris, OK against the Jenks Trojans.
