More students in recent couple of years at Norman High have been deciding to take online classes, a trend that the counselors say is becoming more and more common.
School counselor Mrs. Storm explains that in recent years, there have been a lot more students interested in taking online classes.
”We have seen a huge increase in students wanting to take online courses.” Storm said. “Sometimes the idea of an online class is better than the reality.”
For Blair Erwing, a junior at Norman High who is currently taking three online courses, including Anatomy, Psychology, and Algebra 2, taking these online courses has made it easier to have more free time in the morning.
”I like to have online classes in the morning in case I need extra sleep in the morning,” Erwing said. “It is less time-consuming to take these online courses.”
Still, Blair admitted she learns better in a traditional classroom.
“I do think it is easier to learn in person, but it is less time-consuming to have the online courses,” Blair said.
The counselors at Norman High emphasize that taking these online courses isn’t for everyone since proper time management is such a key factor.
Without daily reminders from teachers, students must stay organized to keep up with deadlines and coursework. For now, online classes remain a good option to give students more autonomy over their own education.
